There were no fireworks, but our centenary year definitely ended with a bang, not a whimper. The warm-up (literally) consisted of community carols in the idyllic surroundings of Thorndon Park. 36 degree heat meant that the parade had to be cancelled, but that didn’t stop a large crowd turning up for the carols.

Excited children danced to Ticklish All Sorts and Glo, the more adventurous climbing on to the stage to be nearer the action, while their parents, accompanied by Sing Australia Magill and the band, sang carols and enjoyed their picnics.
