Campbelltown and Hahndorf bands were both competing in the National Band Championships later in April and a combined concert was arranged to put each band under the sort of stress to be experienced in a different building and a concert environment.
The concert was held in the All Souls’ Anglican Church, St Peters on 10th April and certainly “put the fear of God” into Campbelltown.
It was a most beneficial test and helped the players to feel the pressures. It must have worked because the actual contest brought out our best playing for decades.
