For two years in a row the heavens have not been kind to the Norwood Christmas Pageant and the extremely heavy downpour during this year’s pageant was not welcomed by organisers, spectators or participants. Many young children were saturated either walking alongside or sitting on the floats and had nowhere to shelter. Kensington and Norwood Brass band were very early in the pageant and were hit with heavy rain as were a number of other bands. Summer uniforms seemed to provide little protection, but I guess once you are wet you can’t get any wetter. I saw a few seconds of K&N on the Channel 7 News and they were drenched – but still happily playing bright Christmas music.
Campbelltown City Band on the other hand, and Hahndorf Town Band behind us, were spared this torment and magically marched the length of the pageant, and back to our cars, without so much as a damp drizzle affecting us. We might well have been put off at having to wait so long before starting, but the coffee was good, the company was good and the camaraderie with other bands persons made the wait well worthwhile.
