Welcome to Spring in the Hills? At 9.30am it was about 8 degrees with enough of a gentle breeze to blow the music around – but no rain. Be thankful for small mercies we thought as we shivered through our programme. Possibly the enthusiastic reception of our first number Summon the Music was a hand warming strategy on the part of our intrepid audience?
The loudest applause, however, should be reserved for Hahndorf Band, the organisers of this successful event. Using two playing areas meant that as soon as one band completed its programme the next was ready to start. Keeping everything moving and Covid safe must have been a logistical nightmare – especially when there was always the threat that another lock-down could happen at any time.
And for Campbelltown Band, it was an opportunity to meet up with banding friends – and to “warm up” for our annual fund raising concert “Essence of Brass” the following week.
